About Us

It’s important to align with the vision, values, and beliefs of the place where you are worshiping so that everyone is moving in the same direction. Below, we’ve clarified the areas of significance for Glenwood.

Our Vision

Our vision is to be a family, becoming like Jesus to fulfill His mission. That vision anchors everything that we do.

A family…

Jesus came to earth in a human body, rescued us from sin and death through his life, death, and resurrection. Then, He invited us into His redeemed family, adopted as the Father’s sons and daughters. As followers of Jesus, we are united in love, spirit, and purpose. We are saved into community.

becoming like Jesus…

As we follow Jesus in this community, we become like Jesus, full of grace and truth.  We are helping one another, by God’s Spirit, to mature in faith and grow in grace.  This transformation happens by encountering God in His Word and in His people.  This is why we are committed to accurately and carefully teaching God’s Word to all ages.  It’s why we make room to gather in genuine community to pray, love one another, and grow together.  We are a family with a goal larger than ourselves, we desire to become like Jesus.

to fulfill His mission.

From the time that God called a people, His purpose was to bless them so that they might be a blessing to others. We know that God himself was so burdened for a broken world that He sent His Son. Then the Son sent us to make more disciples. So we pray for our community and the world. We share good news. We serve our neighbor. We open our homes. We commit to local and global partnerships. All of this is in the hope that people might come to know, love, and follow Jesus.

Our Values

Our values are the ways that we live out our vision. They guide our leadership, strategies, and identity. Our intention is that our values unite our people to our purpose.

Biblical Truth

We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant truth of God. We believe the source of truth is God and that the purpose of truth is that we might know and honor God. We believe that God’s truth is constant, authoritative, and penetratingly relevant to our daily lives.

Transformational Teaching

We believe that God uses His word to convict, challenge, encourage, and change believers. We seek at every level to effectively understand, communicate, and apply the words of scripture to our personal and corporate walk and to pressing cultural issues. We also embrace shared, or team teaching, believing that God can use more than one individual to teach His word.

Authentic Worship

We believe that worship is man’s response to God’s revelation of Himself and is evidenced by prayer and obedience accompanied by an attitude of reverence and praise. We believe that worship can be expressed through the powerful language of music. We believe that music can celebrate, exalt, revere, honor, and glorify God. We believe that genuine worship is displayed in the private and corporate life of the Christian and transforms the believer to become more like Jesus Christ.

Enriching Fellowship

We believe that as the body of Christ the church is a family who seeks to love one another as we are loved by God. We believe we are to encourage and stimulate each other in our desire to be more fully conformed to the image of Christ. To that end we value small groups gathered together for biblical purposes that foster biblical fellowship.

Life-Changing Outreach

We believe that people matter to God and therefore should matter to us. God commands us to extend His gospel to others. We believe that obedience to this command results in change in the messenger in that he is more fully conformed to Jesus Christ and in the responder to the gospel in that he becomes a child of God. We desire to engage in local and international missions by means of prayer, financial support, and physical participation. We hope to be sensitive to the many opportunities that exist in our culture for effective communication of the gospel. It is our vision to multiply our impact for Christ in Clark County and abroad by networking with and establishing like-souled churches.

Shared Service

We believe that Jesus Christ gave His life for an imperfect and unworthy church. We believe that Jesus Christ is worthy of our service and that His sacrificial death on behalf of the church compels us to sacrificially serve the same church for whom He died. We believe that God has given all believers one or more gifts and that we are compelled to exercise those gifts in service to Jesus Christ.

Spiritually Nourished Children

We believe that children are valuable to God and a trust bestowed to their families. We are committed to helping families steward their trust wisely by encouraging and equipping parents in the exercise of their responsibilities. We hope to challenge and encourage our students and children to fully follow Jesus Christ and equip them with the tools necessary to follow Christ in an increasingly complex and difficult world.

What We Believe

Glenwood Community Church is a non-denominational church, and we want to be as faithful as we can to the way of Jesus, as found in Scripture. That makes doctrine an essential part of our DNA. In 1 Timothy 4:16, Paul exhorts to “Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching.” Our doctrinal statement represents the “essentials” of what we believe.

Our Doctrinal Statement

We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be inspired of God and inerrant in the original writings and that they are of supreme and final authority in faith and life.

2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Genesis 3:22; Psalm 2:7; Psalm 110:1; Matthew 28:19; Acts 5:3-4; 1 John 5:7

We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary and is true God and true man.

Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-20; John 1:1-14; John 8:58

We believe that man was created in the image of God; and that he sinned and that he thereby incurred not only physical death but also that spiritual death which is separation from God; and all that reach moral responsibility are held accountable as sinners in thought, word, and deed.

Genesis 1:27; Genesis 2:17; Genesis 3:6; Romans 5:12

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures as a representative and as a substitutional sacrifice; and that all that believe in Him are justified on the grounds of His shed blood and resurrection.

Romans 4:25; 1 Corinthians 15:3; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 John 1:7; Acts 13:39;  1 Peter 2:24

We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord; in His ascension into heaven, and in His present life there for us as High Priest and Advocate.

1 Corinthians 15:4; Hebrews 4:14; 1 John 2:1

We believe that all who, by faith, receive the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become the children of God.

John 1:12; Acts 16:30-31; Acts 20:21

We believe in separation unto the Lord from the world and in wholehearted devotion to the cause of Christ as the only Scriptural basis for a happy and useful Christian life. We believe also in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.

1 John 2:15-17; Romans 12:1-2

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust; they that are saved to the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

John 5:28-29

We believe in the “blessed hope,” the personal, the visible, and premillennial return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Titus 2:13; Philippians 3:20; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; 1 Corinthians 15:51-58

We believe in Christian baptism according to the Scriptures as an act of obedience by believers, but baptism is not necessary for salvation. Immersion is taught as the mode and is recommended by the church.

Matthew 3:16; Acts 8:37-39; Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38; Acts 10:48

We believe that the Lord’s Supper is a memorial service for believers, and the partaking of it is in obedience to the words of Jesus Christ.

Luke 22:19; 1 Corinthians 11:23-30
