Position: Director of Operations
Postion Summary
The Director of Operations provides oversight, leadership, and hands-on management of Glenwood Community Church’s facilities, operations, and administrative functions. This role partners with the Church Trustees to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the church campus, including buildings, grounds, equipment, and safety. The Director of Operations leads and equips teams of staff and volunteers to create a safe and well-maintained environment that supports the church’s mission and ministries. The Director of Operations is a full-time, salaried exempt position with medical and retirement benefits and reports to the Senior Pastor.
Responsibilities
Facilities and Office Management
- Supervise, schedule, and shepherd office, facilities staff and volunteers with godly leadership.
- Lead, train, and communicate to ensure team effectiveness and accountability.
- Oversee facility operations, repairs, and improvements, ensuring timely and skilled project completion either by in-house volunteers or contractors.
- Review and manage ongoing contracts: HVAC, copier, insurance policies, waste management, porta-potties, security systems, elevator maintenance, off-site storage, etc.
- Maintain high standards of campus appearance and functionality, ensuring consistent curbside appeal and readiness.
- Oversee preventative maintenance and licensing: road vehicles and grounds equipment.
- Ensure consistent operation of technology systems: phone landline, servers, and copiers.
- Maintain adequate supplies of repair, maintenance, and janitorial materials.
- Train staff and volunteers on safety and facility protocols.
- Assign and manage building keys/FOBs and conduct alarm/security training.
- Schedule state and county required inspections and tests for regulated systems.
- Develop and assess the annual facilities and office budgets and future forecasts.
- Review and approve all facilities and office related billing and payment requests.
Event and Ministry Support
- Attend Sunday services and other major ministry events, ensuring all spaces are prepared and functional as well as responding to urgent needs.
- Coordinate setup and takedown for church events, special services, and campus activities.
- Work with the ministry staff and facilities team to coordinate regular events and special services such as baptisms and weddings.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with Glenwood’s current and future neighbors as well as ministry partners who use our facilities.
- Be on call for emergencies and off-hour security call-outs on church property.
A review of the responsibilities and performance of this position will occur annually. A reevaluation may be requested at any time by the Director of Operations or the Senior Pastor.
Qualifications
- Meets the biblical qualifications for church ministry and service as a Deacon (1 Timothy 3:8-13).
- Pass a national background check and possess a valid driver’s license.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple teams and projects.
- Experience in facility management, operations, or related administrative leadership roles.
- Knowledge of building systems, safety regulations, and preventive maintenance.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working with staff, volunteers, and outside partners.
- Competency with budget oversight, contract review, and vendor management.
- Commitment to the Mission, Values, and Statement of Faith of Glenwood Community Church through dependable, servant-hearted leadership.
